The Surviving Family Members May Need Their Own Life Care Planning for Their Own Ongoing Care

                        

There are many situations where the person for whom a Life Care Plan is created is actually providing essential care for another person, like a spouse or dependent child with chronic illness. Upon death, that dependent spouse or child may be suddenly cast adrift without sufficient resources to sustain health and functioning. In these types of situations it may be appropriate to create a parallel Life Care Plan for the dependent spouse or child to provide for continuity of care when the patient dies who was the subject of the original Life Care Plan.

In special circumstances it may be appropriate to include the Life Care Planning elements for the dependent spouse or child into one comprehensive Life Care Plan for the family as a unit.
